Will He Be Indicted?

Are there still ghosts to haunt from the Plame Outing?
Does his departure from the White House really mean any diminution of his influence?

How Rove Directed Federal Assets for GOP Gains
Bush Adviser’s Effort to Promote the President and His Allies Was Unprecedented in Its Reach
Thirteen months before President Bush was reelected, chief strategist Karl Rove summoned political appointees from around the government to the Old Executive Office Building. The subject of the Oct. 1, 2003, meeting was “asset deployment,” and the message was clear:
“The White House determines which members need visits,” said an internal e-mail about the previously undisclosed Rove “deployment” team, “and where we need to be strategically placing our assets.”
“He didn’t do these things half-baked. It was total commitment,” said Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (Va.), who in 2002 ran the House Republicans’ successful reelection campaign in close coordination with Rove.

Perry’s push for super highway raises conspiracy buzz
Some say it’s part of a plan to create one nation in North America
AUSTIN — Black helicopters, the Illuminati, Gov. Rick Perry and the Trans-Texas Corridor are all now part of the vernacular of the global domination conspiracy theorists.
Perry’s push for the Trans-Texas Corridor super highway is part of a secret plan, the conspiracy theorists say, to create the North American Union — a single nation consisting of Canada, Mexico and the United States with a currency called the Amero.

Buying the Thompson Hype
The lede in a Politico article yesterday really shows the extent to which some people have bought into the Fred Thompson hype:
When Fred Thompson finally announces his candidacy next month, it will be the closest thing to a successful draft of a presidential candidate in more than a half-century.
1) The Thompson draft, with the image of a reluctant candidate being drawn in, was pretty much fake. And Thompson admitted as much to USA Today a few months ago:
2) It’s not the first successful draft since Eisenhower — and we don’t have to go far back to find another. Are our attention spans and long-term recall so short that nobody remembers the Draft Clark movement? It was only four years ago.

Both Clinton & Thompson defend lobbyists
I’m noticing one or two little odd parallels in the presidential race. No, I’m not equating these candidates with each other, but it’s funny how these coincidences happen at the same time, isn’t it?

Of Course, It Depends How You Define the Group Called “Liberals”

UNDERNEWS: LIBERALS STANDING IN THE WAY OF CHANGE
Sam Smith
Bill O’Reilly may be closer to the truth than usual in describing the DailyKos crowd as a hate group. After all, the mundane middle of the Democratic Party defines itself to an extraordinary degree by what it dislikes far more than what policies it supports. There is a mythology among liberals that if we just get rid of Bush, Cheney, Scooter Libby, and Bill O’Reilly everything will be fine. In fact, when you follow their advice and vote as they suggest, you find yourself stuck with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

NY Times, Conyers Misconstrue Notes
Here’s the NY Times, better known as the Ministry of Truth, reporting on the notes of FBI Director Robert Mueller about the hospital room meeting of then White House Cousel Alberto Gonzales and White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card with AG John Ashcroft.
WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 — John Ashcroft was “barely articulate,” “feeble” and “clearly stressed” as he sat in a hospital room chair in March 2004 when top White House aides unsuccessfully tried to persuade him, as the Attorney General, to sign an extension for warrantless domestic eavesdropping on Americans, according to notes made by Robert. S. Mueller III, the director of the F.B.I.
